The Police Department provides a full range of police services 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. The Department is responsible for patrolling City neighborhoods, responding to calls for police service, investigating crimes and arresting offenders, working closely with the community to identify and solve problems of crime and neighborhood disorder as well as dispatching fire and emergency medical services.The men and women of the Southgate Police Department are dedicated to serving the citizens, business owners and visitors to Southgate, Michigan.

H.E.A.T. (Help Eliminate Auto Thefts), Michigan’s statewide auto theft prevention program. For the past 25 years, H.E.A.T. has been working with law enforcement agencies to reduce auto theft in Michigan. H.E.A.T. awards tipsters for their information that leads to an arrest or conviction of an auto-theft suspect. H.E.A.T. refers tips from its 24/7 confidential tip line back to law enforcement for investigation, which has made the program so successful. Tipsters can report tips at www.1800242HEAT.com

The City of Southgate Code Enforcement Officer enforces the International Property Maintenance Code and City of Southgate Ordinances which deal with property maintenance for both the residential and commercial communities.

 

In addition, the Code Enforcement Officer handles registration of vacant properties in the City.

Animal Control   734-246-1328

This section is responsible for picking up stray animals, including all the wild animals, such as skunks and possums, as well as dogs and cats. ACO's provide traps to all residents with animals in their yards or homes, and work in conjunction with the Michigan Humane Society. They also are certified to euthanize animals that must be disposed of.

RESERVE POLICE


Captain Michael Pool

This section is staffed by volunteers and currently numbers anywhere from ten to twenty people. They serve at special events, such as Heritage Days and the Downriver Cruise, as well as make routine patrols on weekend evenings of the schools and churches in the City. They also provide valuable assistance in emergencies, such as weather related events.

They work under the direction of the Administration Staff.
